Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita, a teacher at Irvington High School. Her parents divorced around the age of 10 years old. Latifah was born into the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic high school located in Newark New Jersey. In her early twenties Her cousin gifted her stage names Latifah that means tender and gentle in Arabic. Latifah is a tall 5'10 girl who was part of the high school basketball team. The song she sang was Home from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah was part of Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her beatboxing career. Latifah was one of the founding members of the model of the Flavor Unit which at that the time was comprised of MCs who were grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was a member of Latifah at the time was awed by her single. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
